wtp’s unique leadership development programme for the third sector
Being a leader in a 21st century third sector organisation is both an amazing opportunity and a daunting challenge.
Inspirational Leader Effective Manager
We’re really proud of this programme. We’ve worked hard to understand exactly what the leaders and managers of today and tomorrow want and need. We’ve endeavoured to ensure that it will work for everyone who participates, and that it provides a comprehensive learning experience.
Because we understand that this type of learning is an investment of both time and money, we believe that it should be more than just theory, but provide you with the opportunity to get the development and support you need to make practical changes back at your organisation. That’s why the course runs over a full year, and consists of residential training, ongoing mentoring / coaching support with regular reviews and online peer group support, to ensure participants have a real time learning experience.
You will be able to bring along projects, obstacles and objectives that you want to overcome and achieve so that as you learn, you’ll be coached and supported in reaching the goals you set at the beginning of the course.
The course takes place in Brighton, and consists of an initial 3 night stay at the Hotel Du Vin based in the vibrant and exciting Lanes – handy for the beach, restaurants, bars and clubs (so pack your glow sticks).
Our intention is that by removing yourself from your everyday environment you will benefit from having distance from your work, giving you space to think, time to give your learning requirements your full attention and the opportunity to really focus on both your own development and the development of your organisation.
To ensure we get a full understanding of your needs – once you’ve booked your place! – the programme convener will call you to have a chat about your expectations of, and objectives for the programme so that these can be built into the detailed planning of each programme.
Underpinning theories covered will include:
- Strategic planning theory
- Collaboration
- Complexity theory
- Public and social policy
- Frameworks for understanding management and leadership
Practical elements could include:
- Strategy and planning
- Strategic IT management
- Managing staff
- Future proofing
- Supporting good governance
Once you’ve participated in the initial residential, we’ll assign you a mentor / coach based on your needs, who you will meet with monthly. After 6 months, you’ll come back to Brighton for another 2 night stay to review your learning, get input on key areas of concern and develop a plan for the final four months of the programme. It’ll also give you the opportunity to meet up with the other delegates to share experience and get some peer support.
Also whilst you’re staying in Brighton we’ll give you a per diem for your evening meals, so that you can go out on the town and enjoy the nightlife (but not too much,) or if the group prefers we’ll be happy to organise group activities.
The one to one sessions will continue for another 4 months, until a final review day, when the next steps for both you and your organisation will be discussed and planned for.

Can you tell me the costs involved with this course?
Many thanks,
Yvonne Ovey
Hi Yvonne
In answer to the above question, this course is aimed at larger organisations getting support to develop their management and leadership especially around making major changes in their organisation. It is a year long programme including training and individual support, and the cost is £4,250. We appreciate that this is likely to be beyond the budget for your organisation, so please do give us a call or email and we can sign post you to something within budget that would meet your organisation’s needs.
Kind regards
