Community Rights Made Real

1st Feb 2012 | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM | Friends Meeting House, Brighton

A partnership event by the Urban Forum, the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action, the Community & Voluntary Sector Forum, Trust for Developing Communities and Working Together Project.

The government is introducing new community rights designed to give local people the chance to take action on local services, assets and development, in the form of the Localism Bill which comes into force in 2012.

The aim of this workshop is to prepare for the practicalities, opportunities and challenges of the rights presented in the Localism Bill, and to make sure that communities are equipped with the knowledge and skills to take advantage of these new rights, in particular communities who currently lack power.

There will be a series of workshops which will:

  • Brief people on the details of all the new community rights
  • Discuss their practical implications for communities
  • Share experience of existing community action – successes and pitfalls
  • Support community groups and community activists in planning how they will respond to the new rights
